Elly Taylor is a former Emotionally Focused Relationship Counsellor and Founder of Becoming Us. Based in Sydney and working internationally, Elly is passionate about supporting the emotional and relational wellbeing of mums, dads, parents and families.
For over 25 years as a relationship counsellor, Elly has seen how the wilds and wonders of pregnancy and early parenthood can play out for couples over the short, medium and long terms. Working intimately with both mothers and fathers (or parents), she has accompanied them into the depths of parenthood, learning how emotional and relational changes and challenges can impact both parents’ mental health, their ability to bond with their baby and the security of their relationship and family going forward. Elly believes it’s never too late to turn things around when parents lose direction, help lost partners to find each other again and provide hope for parents and families going forward.
Elly has served as a perinatal relationship SME for numerous university research projects (including SMS 4 DADS, Supporting Your Partner when You Have a Baby and Emotional Experiences of Early Parenthood). She is honoured to have received international recognition as a “parenthood pioneer” for her ground-breaking relationship-developmental framework, which has evolved into a comprehensive multi-disciplinary professional education, facilitator training and programs for parents.
As a consultant, Elly is passionate about sharing her knowledge to include father and partner perspectives (even if they’re not in the room). She enjoys helping clinicians find confidence to work with perinatal couple issues, explore the developmental processes of matrescence and patrescence, unearth hidden relationship concerns and nurture the attachment bond between couples which, in turn, supports adult/infant attachment, what Elly calls “whole family bonding”.
